Two nationally recognized medical centers – Memorial University Medical Center and the St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System – deliver top quality healthcare to Port Wentworth and the entire Savannah region. These medical facilities are also the top two private, non-manufacturing employers in the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area. Care is also provided locally by Effingham Health System.
Saint Joseph/Candler Health System
offers healthcare services across the entire continuum, including local and regional primary care, specialized inpatient and outpatient services in the 714 patient beds in its two anchor hospitals, home healthcare services, as well as a wide variety of community outreach and education efforts throughout the region. Both St. Joseph's Hospital and Candler Hospital are individually accredited by the Joint Commission, while the health system is one of a select few in the country to have achieved network accreditation status. Additionally, St. Joseph's/Candler is the only health provider in the region to have achieved MAGNET status for nursing excellence. The Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion is a part of the National Cancer Institute’s Community Oncology Program, bringing the latest treatments and clinical trials to the community.
St. Joseph’s/Candler opened a 170,000-square-foot micro-hospital on Pooler Parkway in 2019 to better serve the residents of Port Wentworth.
